Tension on the button
   Halting the garage
Exit unexpected
   Cycle broken down

Flailing on the carpet
   Angry arms and legs
I restrain the trembling
   Help him flip the switch

These poems are so powerful – thank you for describing the tension that’s always present in an autistic relationship in such a beautiful medium.

    • You never know when something might happen to upset him like this, but we’re learning to handle it together. Thank you for the compliments!

“helping to flip the switch” brings my son’s childhood back to me, at times it seemed that the
switch was beyond my grasp, other times the flip occurred almost magically.
Thanks Kyle, Matthew is so lucky to have you both as parents.

    • Thank you for the comments. I’m glad you connected with this one; it was a tough situation to experience and tough to share too.

Thanks, Deb! We are so thankful for the support of family and friends. We couldn’t do this without a circle of loving and non-judgemental people around us.
